A REFLECTION ON THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST MOVIE
By Stephen Xu
Galatians 2:20
"I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I
who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live
in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and
gave Himself up for me."
I know many of you who have seen this
Mel Gibson movie were deeply
touched or even shocked by the scenes in this movie. I have to
say that this is the most amazing movie I have ever seen in my
life. It is amazing not because its cruelty and realty, but because
it touched my heart so deeply and strongly, that I couldn't keep
myself from crying and weeping during most of the time of the
movie.
When I saw Christ was being
crucified on the cross, the Scripture that came up into my mind
was Galatians 2:20 - Paul says "I have been crucified with
Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me;
and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in
the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me."
Until then, I hadn't truly understood what Paul was saying here.
But now, I do. I felt I was crucified with Christ on the Cross
at that moment. My sinful nature, my selfish desires, my filthy
thoughts and deeds. All of these, all of these were crucified
on the Cross with Christ.
And since I was crucified
with Christ, I no longer live by myself, but live by faith in
Christ Jesus, who also lives in me and empowers me to live a glorious
life. How then should I hate the sins in me and around me? It
is because of MY sins that Jesus suffered so much, went to the
cross and died for ME! How then should I thank Him and love Him
in return? What kind of new life should I live to bring glory
to Him? And how could I act in obedience to tell others about
Jesus Christ?
All in all, it is NOT about
me any more. It is ALL about Him, the One who loved me and laid
down His life for me. I will put all of my trust in Him. Dear
friends, may it be same of you.
